- Lead a team of 5-10 students in the Explore (ages 5-9) and/or Challenge (ages 9-14) programs.
- Schedule and conduct regular team meetings, ensuring all team members are engaged and participating.
- Communicate with parents and guardians about team activities, progress, and competition details.
- Help students understand and explore the season's theme and challenge requirements.
- Guide students in brainstorming, designing, and building LEGO models and robots.
- Assist with programming LEGO robots using age-appropriate software (e.g., LEGO Education WeDo for Explore, LEGO Mindstorms EV3 or SPIKE Prime for Challenge).
- Foster an inclusive and supportive team environment that encourages collaboration and learning.
- Teach and reinforce important STEM concepts, problem-solving techniques, and critical thinking skills.
- Encourage students to document their progress and reflect on their learning experiences.
- Prepare the team for local and regional competitions by organizing practice sessions and mock presentations.
- Ensure students understand the judging criteria and can effectively communicate their projects and solutions.
- Coordinate logistics for competition participation, including registration, travel arrangements, and equipment preparation.
- Maintain accurate records of team activities, meeting attendance, and project progress.
- Manage the team's budget, including expenses for materials, registration fees, and travel.
- Ensure all team members adhere to the FIRST LEGO League's core values and safety guidelines.
- Passion for working with children and a strong interest in STEM education.
- Knowledge of LEGO building systems and basic programming (training can be provided).
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire young learners.
- Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude.
- Previous coaching or teaching experience is a plus but not required.
- Availability to lead weekly team meetings and occasional weekend activities or competitions.
- Willingness to complete any necessary training or certification required by the FIRST LEGO League program.
- Dedication to supporting the team's development and success throughout the season.
